Align the slip ring brushes with the alignment jig

Center each large-current slip ring (LCSR) brush's contact point on the ring — temporarily loosen its mounting bolts, seat the dedicated alignment jig between slipring channels 2 and 3, then retighten the four bolts to 4.4 N·m before withdrawing the jig, repeating the sequence for both brush assemblies (A and B) on each side of the gantry — per section 8.4.2 ("Brush alignment") of the Gantry Mechanism volume.

Personnel
Adjustment/calibration — temporarily loosening a brush assembly's mounting bolts, seating a dedicated alignment jig into the brush-assembly groove against the slipring between channels 2 and 3, retightening the four mounting bolts to 4.4 N·m with the jig still in place, then withdrawing the jig and visually confirming the brush is not displaced from the ring; judging brush wear against the acceptable/unacceptable alignment criteria and trimming an unevenly worn brush with a cutter before aligning it. No meters or electrical test equipment are called out in this section. (Skill assessment derived from the procedure's content — not an OEM-stated skill level.)

Safety

CAUTION

Hazard: A brush that has worn unevenly can develop a step-like projection where it has lost contact with the ring over the center surface

Consequence: Short circuit

Avoidance: If such a brush is found, be sure to remove the projection using a cutter so the brush surface is even before performing brush alignment

NOTICE

Hazard: Using sandpaper to correct an unevenly worn brush — grains from the sandpaper can enter the brushes. Source labels this call-out CAUTION; reclassified NOTICE here because the stated consequence (abnormal brush wear) is an equipment/procedure-quality outcome, not personal injury

Consequence: Abnormal wear of the brushes

Avoidance: Never use sandpaper to correct unevenness of a worn brush
