Remove and install an RDD disk/power-supply unit (Rorke Data)
Remove and reinstall a disk drive unit or the power supply unit in the RDD (raw-data disk array) cabinet, using the Rorke Data variant's carrier-handle mechanism.
Tools & parts
| Item | Part number | Qty |
|---|---|---|
| Disk drive unit carrier (#1-#5) | n/a in source | Integral carrier handle; no separate screw or fastener stated in source |
| Power supply unit carrier (PS0) | n/a in source | Integral carrier handle; no separate screw or fastener stated in source |
Safety
Hazard: the disk drive unit/power supply carrier subjected to shock while it is removed or inserted
Consequence: damage to the disk drive — source states it is "particularly sensitive to shock"
Avoidance: handle the carrier without shock; do not drop, jar, or bump it during removal or installation
Hazard: a disk reinstalled in a different slot than the one it was removed from
Consequence: the stored data becomes invalid, because the disk array's arrangement depends on slot order
Avoidance: before removing a disk that will be reused, write down the number of the slot it is set in, to enable correct remounting
