Handle and verify the options hardware license (USB dongle)
Confirm that the Aquilion 16's options hardware license — a physical key seated in an internal USB port on the scan console and, separately, on the display console — is present and recognized, by reading its 12-digit UNIQUE ID from the [Option License] > [Key input] window; and know the one handling rule that protects every option a customer has purchased: never remove this license except when deliberately transferring it to a replacement system.
Applies to
Aquilion 16 (TSX-101A) — system software volume 2D260-074E*B, source p.55-56, covering source section 4.1 "Outline" and section 4.2 "Options Hardware Licenses." Source states that the scan console and the display console each carry their own, separate options hardware license — the handling rule and the check procedure below apply identically to either console; run the check on each console that carries one. This atom does not cover the software-side license setting/loading procedures that follow later in the same chapter (§4.3 "Essence-of-3D" license setting, §4.4 "Options Software Licenses" — 90-Day Trial and floppy-disk/key-code licenses); see Related.
Personnel
Basic — menu navigation ([Utility] > [Engineering] > [Option License] > [Key input]) to read a displayed field; no board-level work, tooling, or measurement is involved. The part of this atom that actually carries risk is procedural discipline — never removing the license in normal service, and following the correct sequence when it must move to a replacement system — not technical skill. (Skill assessment derived from procedure content — not an OEM-stated skill level.)
