Clean the large-current slip ring
Clean the gantry's large-current slip ring (LCSR) and its brush section: wipe down the brushes, the brush holder, the ring itself, and the ring holder, then run a short powered rotation check to reach and clean the ring surface that sits under the brushes at rest. Use this task as preventive maintenance — it is the "just clean it" branch of slip-ring service. If a brush is already worn past the 2

Safety
Hazard: Touching the slip ring or brushes while the distribution-board breakers are energized
Consequence: Electric shock — high voltage is present in the slip ring and the brush section
Avoidance: Turn OFF ALL breakers on the distribution board before touching the slip ring or brushes, and keep them off for every step of this task that involves contact — power is deliberately restored only for the brief, hands-off rotation check in Step 6
Hazard: Incorrect slip-ring-brush cleaning technique — sandpaper used on the brushes, force applied to the ring while removing covers, rough brush handling, abraded powder left to fall into the gantry, brushes mounted off-center, or the cable left unverified
Consequence: Abnormal brush wear, ring damage, brush breakage, gantry contamination, or a bad electrical connection
Avoidance: Remove burrs from the brushes with a cutter ONLY — never sandpaper; use sandpaper only on the ring; never force or damage the ring when removing a cover; handle the fragile brushes gently; keep abraded powder out of the gantry; center the brushes on the ring at remount; verify the cable connection
Hazard: Powering the gantry ON with the slip ring/brush section exposed for cleaning (Step 6) and then touching it
Consequence: Electric shock
Avoidance: Never touch the slip ring, brushes, or related hardware once power has been supplied to the gantry — Step 6 is a hands-off rotation check only
Hazard: Wiping the remaining, previously-covered slip-ring sections (Step 7) without confirming the gantry is actually powered OFF
Consequence: Electric shock
Avoidance: Confirm the gantry power is turned OFF securely before wiping the sections not yet cleaned
Hazard: Cleaning the brush and brush holder while the brush holder is still mounted in the gantry
Consequence: Abraded material left on the brush holder can cause electrical discharge
Avoidance: Always remove the brush holder (Step 2) before cleaning the brush and brush holder (Step 3) — never clean them in place
