PM: Inspect and maintain the couch clutch/brake assembly (dry type)

Perform this preventive-maintenance task on the patient couch's clutch/brake assembly — the dry-type unit sitting between the couch's longitudinal-drive motor (M11) and the drive pulley (see the longitudinal-drive theory page in Related). It combines a routine maintenance checklist with the inspection checks to run whenever the clutch or brake misbehaves.

Applies to
Activion16 (TSX-031A). No model- or revision-specific restriction is stated in source for this task.

Safety

CAUTION

Hazard: Oil, grease, or any other contaminant reaching the friction surfaces of this dry-type clutch/brake assembly

Consequence: Operation failure or suction failure of the clutch/brake

Avoidance: Never allow oil or other contaminants to reach the friction surfaces — this assembly is dry-type and must not be lubricated

CAUTION

Hazard: Armature-to-rotor clearance increasing beyond 0.5 mm as the clutch friction surface gradually abrades with use

Consequence: Operation failure or suction failure of the clutch/brake

Avoidance: Periodically check the clearance; if it exceeds 0.5 mm, stop relying on the assembly and return it to Toshiba/Canon Nasu Operations rather than continuing to run it or repairing it on-site

CAUTION

Hazard: Excessive force applied to the brake release lever when releasing the brake for a power failure or electrical problem

Consequence: The lever is deformed or damaged, and the brake can then no longer be released using the lever

Avoidance: Do not apply excessive force to the release lever; before turning the system power back ON, confirm that no force remains applied to the release lever
