Recover from a Failed Upgrade — Emergency Software Installation (Printer in "Error - System Failure")

When a DryStar 5300 hangs showing "Error - System Failure" for more than 10 minutes during a SW 2.0.0_C1 upgrade, build an emergency-install CF card at the Service PC and reinstall the printer's software from it — a process that reformats the internal CF card — choosing at the local keypad whether to preserve the printer's existing configuration or let it return to factory defaults.

Applies to
DryStar 5300, Type 5365 — source Chapter 7, Appendix §6.4 "Emergency Software Upgrade," Field Modifications (DD+DIS350.05E), Edition 1, Revision 9 (2006-01-20), document p.486-487. Triggered from §3.1's own escalation note (the regular CF-card SW 2.0.0_C1 upgrade path) when the printer hangs displaying "Error - System Failure" for more than 10 minutes during that upgrade — see [Perform the SW 2.0.0_C1 upgrade via CF card (regular path)](agfa-dry-drystar5300-sw-upgrade-install-via-cf-card).
Personnel
1 technician · Service-level technician or key-operator: builds an emergency-install CF card at the Service PC (copies the contents of directory \emergency_install off the SW 2.0.0_C1 CF card), inserts that card into the printer, reboots it, and answers the local-keypad "Do you want to preserve config?" prompt with an understanding of what each answer does internally (see "What happens internally," below). Source assigns no formal skill-level label to this section (derived).
