Emergency SW Installation on a Printer in "Error - System Failure" State

When a DryStar 5300 is stuck showing "Error - System Failure," reinstall its operating software from an external CF card carrying the manufacturer's "Emergency_Install" package — a process that reformats the internal CF card — and choose at the local keypad whether to keep the printer's existing configuration or let it return to factory defaults.

Applies to
DryStar 5300, Type 5365/100 — source §3.3 "Emergency SW Installation on a Printer in 'Error - System Failure' State," Repair and Service: Machine specific tools, software tools and auxiliary means, Edition 1, Revision 7 (2006-01-26), document p.158-159. Use this procedure specifically when the printer's display is showing "Error - System Failure" — for a new/empty internal CF card that was never in this error state (e.g. after a CF-card exchange), the neighboring §3.2 procedure applies instead (see agfa-dry-drystar5300-sw-emergency-install-empty-cf-card, forward-ref).
Personnel
1 technician · Service-level technician — inserts a CF card carrying the manufacturer's "Emergency_Install" software (obtained via MEDNET, GSO Library) into the printer's CF card reader, reboots the printer, answers the local-keypad "Do you want to preserve config?" prompt with an understanding of what each answer does internally (see "What happens internally," below), and then follows whatever further instructions the local keypad displays. Source assigns no formal skill-level label to this section (derived).

Safety

NOTICE

Consequence: If that board re-programming is interrupted by a power loss, the specific board involved may become unusable.

Avoidance: Do not reboot the printer before requested to by a local keypad message.
