MRIQ Dark or Shaded Area in Images Due to Poor Coil Connection.
Symptom
MRIQ Dark or Shaded Area in Torso Array Coil Images See Long Description and Attachment 1.5T Excite II system running 11.0 M4 software: See exam 41708 series 5 image 7, in the attachment. Customer reports a dark area at inferior patient left corner. The Torso Array coil was already replaced for this problem earlier. There are no related error messages logged. It appears to be a susceptibility artifact possibly caused by a ferrous object such as a staple or possibly spilled contrast agent, disturbing the magnetic field at this point. The fat is bright and the surrounding tissue dark in this area. I asked the customer to check the pads and the area of the cradle, but she declined as she did not have time to do this.
