The "install.mod" Script Fails During Maxoptix to SONY MOD Drive Upgrade See Long Description. PQR # 13103859 Note that iTrak # 13103859 was "closed to trending" which means that the wrong documentation described below will not be corrected. In fact, as of this writing on 25 Jan 2011 the error in documentation still exists. When performing the software reconfigure portion of the Maxoptix to SONY MOD upgrade, the procedure WORKSPACE CABINET REPLACEMENT OCTANE REV 8 OW2REA2.DOC, part of Signa 2160623 MR Service Methods Rev 16, March, 2005, states to run the "install.mod" script "WITH SIGNA APPLICATIONS UP, AND RUNNING". This information is in conflict with the SMILe released 22 Aug 2002, and also the Magneto-Optical Drive (MOD) Help, “MOD Installation & ConfigurationGuide Novice Mode”, Rev. 1.3, found in Signa 2160623 MR Service Methods Rev 16, March, 2005, where it states to run this script at the root level (applications software "down") When this is attempted with applications running, per procedure, the script fails with the error message Please bring down the application software and rerun install.mod. MOD installation has terminated on failure.... Then, upon checking /export/home/sdc/app-defaults/archive/SCSI.fol, it is seen that the system is still configured for a Maxoptix drive (see example below). Had the script worked, the file would've been changed to SONY MOD (see example below). Example SCSI.fol configured for Maxoptix MOD sun-mcn% cat SCSI.fol # # This SCSI configuration file is used by the arserver for # device access to the "Media Interchange" devices and is # specifically tailored to this machine. # IRIX64 IRIS 6.5 01091821 IP30 # DEVICE_TYPE: MaxoptixT5-2600 BLOCK_TYPE:FIXED FSREVISION:1 FSDIRDEPTH:2 FSDIRMOD:26 FSFILEMOD:94 FSDIRBASE:/GEMS PLATFORM:IP30 MACHINE:DEFAULT INTERFACE:SCSI DEVICE_NAME:/hw/scsi/sc1d4l0 DOS_DRIVE_A:/hw/rdisk/dks1d4vol DOS_VHEAD_A:/etc/SGImodvh.dat END:IP30 END: MaxoptixT5-2600 DEVICE_TYPE: DMOD BLOCK_TYPE:FIXED PLATFORM:IP30 MACHINE:DEFAULT INTERFACE:SCSI DEVICE_NAME:/hw/scsi/sc1d4l0 DOS_DRIVE_A:/hw/rdisk/dks1d4vol DOS_VHEAD_A:/etc/SGImodvh.dat END:IP30 END: DMOD DEVICE_TYPE: 2.3GB BLOCK_TYPE:FIXED PLATFORM:IP30 MACHINE:DEFAULT INTERFACE:SCSI DEVICE_NAME:/hw/scsi/sc1d4l0 DOS_DRIVE_A:/hw/rdisk/dks1d4vol DOS_VHEAD_A:/etc/SGImodvh.dat END:IP30 END: 2.3GB -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Example SCSI.fol configured for SONY MOD sun-mcn 6# cat SCSI.fol # # This SCSI configuration file is used by the arserver for # device access to the "Media Interchange" devices and is # specifically tailored to this machine. # IRIX64 sun-mcn 6.5 01091821 IP30 # DEVICE_TYPE: SONYSMO-F551 BLOCK_TYPE:FIXED FSREVISION:1 FSDIRDEPTH:2 FSDIRMOD:26 FSFILEMOD:94 FSDIRBASE:/GEMS PLATFORM:IP30 MACHINE:DEFAULT INTERFACE:SCSI DEVICE_NAME:/hw/scsi/sc1d4l0 DOS_DRIVE_A:/hw/rdisk/dks1d4vol DOS_VHEAD_A:/etc/SGImodvh.dat END:IP30 END: SONYSMO-F551 DEVICE_TYPE: DMOD BLOCK_TYPE:FIXED PLATFORM:IP30 MACHINE:DEFAULT INTERFACE:SCSI DEVICE_NAME:/hw/scsi/sc1d4l0 DOS_DRIVE_A:/hw/rdisk/dks1d4vol DOS_VHEAD_A:/etc/SGImodvh.dat END:IP30 END: DMOD DEVICE_TYPE: 2.3GB BLOCK_TYPE:FIXED PLATFORM:IP30 MACHINE:DEFAULT INTERFACE:SCSI DEVICE_NAME:/hw/scsi/sc1d4l0 DOS_DRIVE_A:/hw/rdisk/dks1d4vol DOS_VHEAD_A:/etc/SGImodvh.dat END:IP30 END: 2.3GB
