Genieacq acquisition software (AUI) shuts down to login screen after acquisition completes and auto sends data.
Symptom
Genieacq acquisition software (AUI) shuts down to login screen after acquisition completes and auto sends data. Problem has been seen as an intermittent UI crash back to the login screen during automatic network send. It appears to happen on R4.0 and R4.5 systems. Although we now know that it is quite widespread and happens on a variety of systems. We do not have a patch for the problem, nor a way to recreate it reliably at the moment. Any help that we can get in isolating the circumstances of the problem and collecting error logs and core files (with error_report) will be appreciated. We need to obtain error reports from as many sites as possible to get a better understanding of how and why the problem occurs. The workaround is to use manual send. Changing st_net settings from auto seems to reduce if not eliminate it. The problem is probably effected by timing, so network load, PC type and other factors that change the order of events within the GENIE Acq UI software can have an effect on when the problem occurs. st_net will only have an effect on Dell GX200 PCs. I have heard a report that setting the speed to 10 Mbps can stop the problem, but maybe it only reduces the frequency it happens. Similarly, changing network parameters on destination workstations might effect the frequency (for better or for worse...). There is an error log marker to look out for; 2005/06/08 12:40:18 EDT genieacq:aui;98:track_std_obj.cc[$Revision: 1.2 $] track_std_obj::next_study() line 642 error 0x0140001F level 3 severity 3 {} "Invalid magic number, probably due to incorrect pointer 13655672" Seeing this does not guarantee that the software will crash, but it does seem to be closely associated with the problem. Please obtain problem report (run error_report from terminal window) from system if seeing this issue and forward to Engineering via PQR. Contributor 212004014 Merritt December 15 2005
