Symptom
MRIQ Shear Distortion Oval Images on DWI Diffusion Weighted Images. See long description. Some of the diffusion-weighted epi images are reconstructed as ovals tipped at a -45 degree angle. This is a 1.5T Hi-Speed LX system. All EPT cals pass. SPT passes. No other imaging mode has this effect. A System Health check shows no problem with the system configuration or calibrations. All REQUIRED (but not all) eddy curent crossterms are applied. If at the OnLine Center, you may view a phantom image of this problem: system ID 610973MR, Exam 50173, Series 1, Image 121. Normal phantom images are: same exam, same series, images 69 and 101. Note that the oval phantom image looks exactly like the example shown in Service Note 65043 "Diffusion Weighted Image Artifacts" page 4 "Shear Distortion due to eddy currents on logical read x diffusion", second image from the right.
