Component
46-307575P4 5-1/4" MAGNETO OPTICAL DISC used on HSA RP See Long Description for Details. Part #: 46-307575P4 Part Type: GP REPAIRABLES Part Weight: 3.19 LBR Repairable: Yes Returnable: Yes Hazardous Material: N Description: 5-1/4" MAGNETO OPTICAL DISC FRU: Yes Status: Orderable Comments: FLS - PIONEER OPTICAL DISK DRIVE T3202EH A large percentage of ELF (early life failures) and DOAs have been attributed to contamination of the MODs. Several preventative steps may prevent a return service call. 1. Verify that all airways are open and clean. Verify that all of the towers or cabinets that the mod is installed in are cleaned prior to installation. 2. Verify that the Customers media is not contaminated. Slide the metal window to the side. Avoid touching the media. Look inside for any dust balls or a light film of dust on the media. Installing the dirty media will contaminate the MODs optics at spin up. This will cause degradation in performance and or complete failure. Clean the media with a clean air source. Compressed air maybe used but make sure there is no moisture of oil in the line. No matter what the air source is do not apply the blast or air at close range some sources will cause rapid cooling to the object in it path. This is not a good idea for the media and holding it a few inches away should be sufficient. Also short blasts will help in preventing thermal shock. Try this routine on another object to see if your source causing rapid thermal changes. 3. Replace damaged media. Media that appears to be scratched or soiled should not be used. 4. Insert the media only when the MOD is in active use either writing or reading operations. Leaving the disk inside the mod for prolonged period of time will allow dirt to migrate into the MOD and media. Indefinite spin time has been directly attributed to contamination build up inside the MOD and the media. This will lead to failure or the MOD and or the media.
