Symptom
P500D Image Artifacts: Sometimes faint images of anatomical structures are seen outside of collimated regions. The root cause of this effect is the off-focal radiation, which consists of x-rays generated outside the focal spot. The X-ray beam path in the Precision 500d consists of special collimator assembly to remove this off-focal radiation. However, in situations when the collimator cannot remove all the off-focal radiation, the above-described image artifact appears, giving the erroneous impression of damaged collimator blades. The problem is usually worse in the lateral direction, and less noticeable in the vertical direction.
