Who May De-commission Oxford Magnets? See Long Description From SMILe 4/19/2006. (See Resolution concept for the complete SMILe): In the early years of MR, GE Medical Systems purchased and sold magnets manufactured by Oxford Magnet Technology as part of the Signa System. GE Field Engineers were trained to perform service on these magnets and had been recognized as Qualified Service Agents by Oxford Magnet Technology. A change in Oxford Magnet Technology company ownership and leadership has since changed this service philosophy. Oxford Magnet Technology is now owned and operated by Siemens Corporation and the company no longer recognizes GE Service Personnel as Qualified Service Agents for the de-commissioning of their magnets. It is estimated there are about 35 magnets still operational in the field today.
