The Two Models of Sony MOD Drives are Not Compatible in All MR Systems. See Long Description. There is confusion between the two different Sony MOD drive models. They have caused issues with replacement and system operation in the field. They both have extremely similar model numbers and are identical in appearance and size however they should never be exchanged between systems. The Signa 8X/LX software and the YMS, IIS/AW System Software is written to exclusively communicate with specific models of Sony MOD Drives. Model SMO-F551 used in YMS Systems (excluding Ovation Systems), IIS and AW Workstations does not support writing 650MB (1X) and 1.2GB (2X) media. Model SMO-F551-SD (Used in 8X/LX MR Signa Systems and Ovation Systems) does support writing 650MB (1X) and 1.2GB (2X) media.
