IT WILL NOT WORK WITH 4K MEMORY DIMMS ** REPAIR OPERATIONS SERVICE TIP ** 2169940-13 SGI OCTANE IP30 Module WARNING for CT Systems: When powering up the Octane, it may be necessary to press the “POWER” Button on the OCTANE front panel. The “POWER” button is behind the door, just above the lightbar. This module is used on CT and MR systems which use the Silicon Graphics OCTANE computer. This module, SGI number 030-0887 will NOT support the 4K type of memory . Refer to appropriate documentation to verify the type of memory that you have. ALWAYS UNPLUG INPUT POWER CORD to the OCTANE computer before removing any component. COMPRESSION CONNECTORS : Compression (XIO) connectors J11 and J24 are EXTREMELY SENSITIVE ! Do not touch them. ALWAYS install the caps. Clean with compressed air only. PREPPING the IP30 Module : CPU: Transfer CPU Module from original IP30 to the replacement. DO NOT loosen the allen heat sink screws! Loosen (4) mounting screws on SINGLE CPU, or loosen (6) mounting screws on DUAL CPU. MEMORY: Transfer MEMORY from original IP30 Module. Each 2 DIMM bank MUST be of the same capacity and type. Place the HIGHEST capacity bank in S1 and S2. Place remaining banks in order of DECREASING density in Slots S3/S4, S5/S6, and so on. Install the memory DIMM retaining bracket. It is NOT necessary to exchange U39 NVRAM with your unit. It will auto update the first time system is powered up. All license information is keyed to the “NIC” system identification module located on the “Frontplane”. Assure all fans and the air intake vents on the top of the OCTANE are free of dust. Dusty connectors WILL cause system to fail. Make sure that the Frontplane connectors are free of dust. Use compressed air to clean if necessary. INSTALLATION: Verify that the power cord has been unplugged from the OCTANE! Remove the compression connector caps. With the locking bars slid fully out, carefully slide the IP30 Module into the OCTANE until it is firmly seated. Push the sliding handles in until they contact the OCTANE frame. TIGHTEN THE SCREW IN EACH HANDLE (do not over tighten!) . Connect the cables to the IP30 Module. Reconnect the OCTANE system power cord. Turn system on using POWER button on the Octane front panel. Button is behind the door, just above the light bar. View PRIMARY display screen for error messages (i.e. “no keyboard”) and correct as required. Use “hinv” to verify correct memory and hardware. NOTE: If error messages indicate problems communicating with PCI cage (Xbow) or Graphics, it may be necessary to remove, clean dust from connectors, and reinstall subassemblies. (i.e. remove clean PCI cage connectors and mating connectors on Frontplane, and reinstall PCI cage)
