What is a practical way to test my network transfer speed You may find that pings work (very low data rate), but sending lots of data results in many retries, to the point where the port / network card may take itself off line. Slow or intermittent data transfer usually turns out to be a bad port on the hospital network, or the port configured incorrectly - "Auto" sometimes does not work. Even in some cases found transfer issues with 255.255.0.0 subnet mask setting.
